:: Bus Speed

In order for the processor (brain) and the memory, audio, hard drive and other devices to talk they must be connected. This connection is referred to as the bus speed. They are wires that connect devices together in order to exchange information and send commands. This speed at which information can travel is knows as bus speed and can greatly affect the overall speed of the entire computer system. In a computer there are two forms of bus speed, the front side bus which controlls the high speed devices and the southside bus which controls the slower speed devices for example the floppy drive, and cd-rom drive.

Eco-Friendly laptops are just that, laptops that have been designed with nature conservation in mind. Usually using less (or eliminating) toxic materials for example lead or mercury, and utilizing more recyclable materials. These laptops are usually not cheap, and we recommend potential consumers do some research and find out what about them is Eco-Friendly, if the environmental issues are part of the purchasing reason. Hard drives are like a cassette tape and a record player combined, with more advanced technology. Hard drives record data by organizing little pieces of metal just like a cassette tape, and spin to read and gather data just like a record player. Desktops currently use this as the main storage device. Hard drives now are available up to a whopping 1TeraByte. We recommend for the average user 80-120GB. This is plenty of storage.

Hot Swappable was commercially introduced with the advent of USB devices in 1995. Hot-Swappable is a feature that allows a user to take a compatible device which is usually USB and connect or disconnect the device without restarting the computer. Please be advised that USB Flash drives must be removed correctly by clicking disconnect-connect, other wise if the computer is writing or reading from the flash drive all data may be lost.

A computer keyboard is designed for the input of text, charters and sometimes customized commands. Laptop keyboards due to room do not have a separate portion for the numeric pad; instead a feature can be turned on and it converts the output to numeric pad characters. :: One Laptop Per Child (OLPC)

By designing a laptop that is inexpensive (100.00-250.00 USD) companies are hoping to market these to developing countries. The laptop does not have a hard drive, cd-rom or any Microsoft (or apple) software. Instead it used the open-source Linux to drive the laptop. The laptop allows for drawing, programming, games and learning exercises. The laptop can charge by plug-in, winding a knob for a few minutes to generate electricity, or solar panel in countries where it is hot and sunny.
